Irene Iniesta-Arandia participated as a guest speaker in the Gender and Science session of the XX Congress of the Iberian Association of Limnology (AIL-2020), “Limnology in a changing world”, celebrated in a virtual and organized from Murcia (Southeast of Spain). The session was organized by the Gender and Science group of the Iberian Association of Limnology, launched in 2014 with the aim of acting as an external observer of gender biases within the AIL, fostering women’s visibility within the scientific community and proposing recommendations for improving gender equality in institutions related with limnology. In her talk, Irene proposed going beyond the proposals to include women in science and proposed approaching the relationship between gender and science from a feminist and anti-colonial perspective, which takes into account not only gender as something specific to people but also as something encoded in cultural and knowledge systems.
